DMH Performance Oversight Hearing

March 10, 2010

Executive Director Judith Sandalow testified at the Performance Oversight Hearing of the DC Department of Mental Health, acknowledging the department's positive changes in the past years, while challenging it to address and dismantle the systemic barriers that prevent DC's children from receiving appropriate mental health services.

Specifically, Sandalow called on DMH to:

  • Expand the array of available mental health services,
  • Continue to improve the quality and quantity of services,
  • Reduce the number of children in residential placements, and
  • Address, together with other agencies, the fragmented payment system that makes DC's Medicaid-funded mental health system unattractive to high-quality mental health providers
