Lisa Gartner of The Examiner delves into a court monitor's report on special education services in the District, and includes a quote from executive director Judith Sandalow. The report is part of the ongoing Blackman-Jones class action lawsuit that's been in effect for over a decade. Children's Law Center attorneys took on more than 200 special education cases last year, and the need for help is much greater than that. The Examiner story highlights the experience of one student whose deafness required extra accomodations. When her needs went unmet, the bright and motivated girl - who had planned to go to college - dropped out of high school before graduation. Sandalow said this case was "agonizing, but sadly it's not uncommon."
