National Adoption Day with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius
On November 20, 2009, CLC and our pro bono partners were invited to celebrate National Adoption Month with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, members of Congress, and White House representatives at an event to commemorate National Adoption Day. Secretary Sebelius participated in a ceremony formalizing the adoption of two CLC families represented by our pro bono partners at two local law firms.
Adoption Day at DC Superior Court
One-third of the adoptions that were finalized at this year's Adoption Day Ceremony at DC Superior Court on November 21, 2009 were cases handled by Children’s Law Center (CLC) attorneys and our pro bono partners.
CLC is grateful for our pro bono partners who worked tirelessly during the past year to create permanent families for the District's most vulnerable children. Dozens of local law firms have generously donated legal services to caregivers seeking to provide safe and loving homes for foster children in the District of Columbia.
Thirty adoptions were publicly finalized at Adoption Day on November 21, 2009 - a fraction of the hundreds each year.
