As the Appellate Project Manager, Melissa works on and supervises appeals arising from abuse and neglect, adoption, custody and special education proceedings. She also teams with trial attorneys on developing strategic approaches for complex litigation and on creating the best record possible from an appellate perspective. Melissa is an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School, where she teaches appellate advocacy skills by coaching teams of students competing in national moot court competitions. Prior to joining Children’s Law Center in 2011, Melissa worked as a litigation associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP and clerked for two years for the Honorable John R. Fisher of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Before law school, Melissa spent three years teaching History to ninth and tenth graders.
