CLC testified at a DC Council hearing regarding the Information Sharing to Improve Services for Children & Families Act of 2009 (B18-344). This bill would allow a large number of people (including clergy and any mandatory reporter of child abuse, which includes such people as dentists, athletic coaches and public housing managers) to have access to otherwise confidential juvenile court records, social records and law enforcement records. We believe that highly sensitive and personal information about a child and family ought to remain confidential in most circumstances. Therefore, we urged the members of the Committee on Public Safety & the Judiciary to vote against this bill.

“I would thank Children’s Law Center for giving me a chance to go to a four year college or even a trade school, to do something I’d like to do. Like maybe be a sportscaster … or a chef.”
