Children's Law Center Adds Strength to Board of Directors

January 19, 2010

Washington, DC – Children’s Law Center (CLC) announced today the election of a new Chair of the Board of Directors and the addition of two Board Members.  The ongoing development and deepening of the Board not only provides CLC with additional strategic guidance, but also strengthens its ties to the DC legal community.

H. Guy Collier joined Children’s Law Center’s Board of Directors in 2008 and became Chair of the Board in Fall 2009. He is a partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, where he specializes in health law. Guy is Chair of the firm’s Global Pro Bono and Community Service Committee as well as Chair of the DC Bar Pro Bono Committee.  MWE has recently piloted a pro bono project for CLC’s Health Access Project, representing low-income families on special education matters.

Anthony Herman is a senior litigation partner at Covington & Burling LLP and recently joined the CLC Board of Directors. Tony has long served as chair of Covington’s Public Service Committee in addition to his busy commercial litigation practice and pro bono practice. His commitment to the community is reflected in his many board positions for organizations such as Children’s Law Center. Covington is a longstanding CLC supporter, having provided full-time loaned associates and paralegals to the organization since 2003.

Joseph C. Figini is Senior Vice President and General Counsel at CGI Technologies and Solutions, Inc., and is another recent addition to the CLC Board of Directors. Joe is a member of CGI’s Corporate Social Responsibility Steering Committee. Prior to his tenure at CGI, Joe practiced technology law at the Washington, DC law firm Shaw Pittman LLP, where he was heavily involved in local pro bono work. Joe is an adoptive father and personally committed to CLC’s mission.

“Children’s Law Center is fortunate to have the support of distinguished board members like Guy, Tony and Joe who not only believe deeply in the work that we do, but also help us to set –and stick to – a strategic course,” said Judith Sandalow, executive director of Children’s Law Center. “Their guidance is especially important as we continue to navigate the economic uncertainties that impact our ability to deliver critical services to our clients.”
