Executive Director Judith Sandalow testified on the importance of supporting older teens in foster care. She particularly called on the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) to do a better job of recognizing and addressing the reality facing teens today in order to to provide more individualized attention and reduce the bureaucracy.
Sandalow highlighted several areas that CLC believes deserve further attention, as well as possible solutions, including: extending adoption and guardianship subsidies; supporting lifelong connections that teens often have with adults who provide support; foster parent recruiting, training and support; better preparation for teens to live independently; improving the Office for Youth Empowerment; and providing timely college assistance.
