WASHINGTON, DC— DC’s Children’s Law Center (CLC) has been designated one of the fifty best nonprofits to work for in the country by The NonProfit Times. CLC’s 75 employees completed a 70-part survey with questions regarding their level of satisfaction with their overall work environment, support for work-life balance and general well-being. As an employer, CLC was asked to delineate its practices on employee orientation, renewable resource use and compensation. CLC was selected from thousands of entries.
“I’m delighted that our hard-working, talented employees feel they are supported by Children’s Law Center and enjoy our collegial environment,” said Judith Sandalow, CLC Executive Director. “We have worked hard for fifteen years to cultivate a unique culture that supports each of our employees individually and encourages team work across all levels of our organization. No matter what your title is here, we are all working together to improve the lives of DC’s neediest children and families,” she continued, “and it’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to our staff.”
Children’s Law Center’s staff is comprised primarily of attorneys and investigators who provide pro bono legal services to some of the most vulnerable children and families in the District. Most of the children CLC works with are in foster care or living in low-income families; the services provided to them include representation in the areas of adoption, custody, health and special education. Given the often intense and deeply personal work, CLC strives to provide its employees a supportive workplace with manageable workloads, an emphasis on training and professional development and comprehensive health benefits.
“I’ve been with CLC for eight years, and I am able to be a better advocate for my clients because CLC is such a great place to work,” said Tracy Goodman, Health Access Project Director.

“I would thank Children’s Law Center for giving me a chance to go to a four year college or even a trade school, to do something I’d like to do. Like maybe be a sportscaster … or a chef.”
