Kyle is a young boy with physical disabilities who uses a wheel chair. His neighborhood DC public school was not wheelchair accessible, so Kyle was unable to go to the bathroom during the school day. He was also left behind when the class went on field trips because the teachers said they couldn’t provide accessible transportation. Not surprisingly, Kyle didn’t like school and was only earning D’s and F’s.
Finally, the DC school system decided he could not even attend school. They sent him home for more than seven months, providing a tutor only one hour a week.
After more than a year of advocating by herself, Kyle’s mother, Ms. Harper, recruited the help of a Children’s Law Center attorney to fight for Kyle’s right to a good education. CLC gathered evidence, researched the law and prepared for trial. The school system settled the night before trial – and allowed Kyle to attend an accessible school with the services he needs to succeed.
Due to the help of Children’s Law Center, Kyle is now excelling at school and making his mom very proud. He is now an A and B student and his reading level has jumped considerably! His independence in dealing with his physical disabilities has sky rocketed and his quality of life is through the roof.

[Part 2]
I wouldn’t have been able to afford the legal help that I got. The legal assistance I got was equivalent to a Wall Street law firm. That’s how hard Children’s Law Center worked. I could never have paid for what I received from them.
