Ms. Knight and her son Moses

Ms. Knight came to us because her son Moses was failing in school. Once CLC got involved, we learned that Moses had unaddressed special education needs and advocated to get him placed in a school that could address his learning and emotional issues. CLC also worked to get her older son into a school that addressed his learning disabilities. Today, he is a college student.

Ms. Knight also shared with us that she was raising several children whose mothers were in jail, on drugs or had simply abandoned their children. We helped her secure financial assistance and worked with her to ensure that she had adequate housing to care for these children. One of these girls is now a sophomore student at Benedict College in South Carolina.

Ms. Knight and her family were the first recipients of our Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays program.

Steptoe & Johnson has had a very close relationship with the Children's Law Center since its formation. The cases CLC refers are truly compelling, and the many attorneys who have worked on them over the years have been deeply touched by the experience. It is also a pleasure to work with the CLC staff, all of whom are extremely knowledgeable, and always ready to mentor pro bono attorneys.
