Renee Murphy is a Supervising Attorney on Children’s Law Center's Policy team. Renee advocates with DC government agencies and the DC Council to improve services and supports for the District’s most vulnerable children and families, including children with needs for special education. Previously, Renee was a staff attorney with Children’s Law Center’s Healthy Together medical-legal partnership that brings lawyers and physicians together in city health clinics to tackle legal issues that underlie problems in child health and wellbeing, including special education, housing conditions, and access to health care services. Renee began working at Children’s Law Center as an Equal Justice Works Fellow in 2010 and focused on early intervention services for infants and preschoolers. While in law school, she represented low-income people in housing and small claims cases, and taught a class about legal issues to detained juveniles. Before law school, she advocated for children in foster care in Chicago for four years at Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cook County.
