WAMU: The Number Of Kids In Foster Care In The Region Is Down. Here Are Some Reasons Why.

CLC Policy Attorney Aubrey Edwards-Luce spoke with WAMU about the decrease in the number of children in foster care in the DC region. She expressed concerns about some children potentially being kept in dangerous home situations.

While the number of children in foster care might be declining because of the higher use of family preservation services, some advocates in D.C. say they’re concerned children might remain in their homes despite being in danger of harm. “We have seen evidence of them sustaining injury or being exposed to significant risk of harm while staying in their homes,” says Aubrey Edwards-Luce, senior policy attorney at Children’s Law Center, who represents children in D.C.’s foster care system.
