Children’s Law Center fights so every child in DC can grow up with a loving family, good health and a quality education. Judges, pediatricians and families turn to us to advocate for children who are abused or neglected, who aren’t learning in school, or who have health problems that can’t be solved by medicine alone. With more than 100 staff and hundreds of pro bono lawyers, we reach 1 out of every 9 children in DC’s poorest neighborhoods – more than 5,000 children and families each year. Children’s Law Center seeks a development professional with an interest in soliciting donations from individuals to work in a dynamic, fast-paced office. The development assistant supports our work to meet our individual giving goals, developing relationships with our Kite Club (donors who give $1,500+) and our lower-dollar donors to create a pipeline of future donors.  The development assistant reports to the director of corporate and individual philanthropy.

Requirements and Qualifications 

  • Previous fundraising experience preferred, ideally soliciting gifts from individuals. 
  • Experience with databases preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional judgment and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficient at managing multiple assignments using clear and direct communication.
  • Adept at working independently and as a team member.
  • Able to work efficiently and problem-solve effectively.
  • Willing and available to work overtime, as necessary, for events and time-sensitive projects.
  • Works well in a dynamic and fast-changing environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 or 2016, especially Word and Excel.
  • College experience preferred.


Salary is mid $30,000’s, commensurate with experience. Overtime pay may also be available. Position is open until filled.
